Mango Panicles Setting Fruit

by The Mango Factory on June 4, 2009

The mango panicles that I have been photographing are starting to set fruit and now begins the much slower and selective phase of this cycle. There may be 10 to 50 small fruits that set on each panicle but as time passes many, if not all, will drop. Last year, I tagged 3 panicles on 6 Keitt mango trees and only one of these panicles produced one mature fruit.

The panicle will either develop fruit, leaves or wood. If fruit, the panicle can usually not support more that three mangoes at a time.
